MOSCOW, MAY 5. Russia said it was deeply worried by reports of U.S. troops torturing Iraqi prisoners, even as Washington indicated support for Moscow's settlement plan for Iraq. "The reports of torture in Iraq evoke profound concern," Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Yury Fedotov told the Interfax news agency on Wednesday. He urged the United Nations to look into the incident. The Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said the U.S. had endorsed Moscow's proposal to call an international peace conference on Iraq. Mr. Lavrov has just returned from the U.S. where he discussed Iraq with the U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell.
