England asks Windies to bat

BRIDGETOWN, MAY 5. England won the toss and chose to field in the seventh and final one-day international against West Indies here on Wednesday.

West Indies has named the same XI that won last Sunday's sixth ODI at Gros Islet by four wickets to take a 2-1 lead in the rain-marred, 7-match series.

England, which won the opening contest at Georgetown by two wickets with three balls to spare in a match reduced to 30 overs-a-side because of rain-affected conditions, has also retained the same side from Sunday.

Three of the previous ODIs were washed out. Only 16 overs were possible in the second match at Port of Spain that ended in a no-result because of rain, which forced the abandonment of the third also at Port of Spain and the fourth at St. George's without a ball being bowled.

The teams:

West Indies: Brian Lara (Capt.), Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dwayne Smith, Ricardo Powell, Dwayne Bravo, Ridley Jacobs, Mervyn Dillon, Ravi Rampaul and Ian Bradshaw.

England: Michael Vaughan (Capt.), Marcus Trescothick, Andrew Strauss, Andrew Flintoff, Paul Collingwood, Chris Read, Rikki Clarke, Gareth Batty, Darren Gough, James Anderson and Steve Harmison.

Umpires: Billy Doctrove, Aleem Dar; Third umpire: Eddie Nicholls; Reserve: Vincent Bullen. Match referee: Jeff Crowe. — AFP
