Strong field for all-India tournament

PERIAKULAM, MAY 5. Some of the top teams in the country will be seen in action in the 45th edition of the P.D. Chidambara Sourya Narayanan memorial Trophy all-India basketball tournament, to be hosted by Silver Jubilee Sports Club, at the PSD memorial floodlit courts here from May 15 to 21.

The prestigious tournament, which will be played on knockout-cum-league format, has attracted 24 teams, including defending champion Indian Overseas Bank, last year's runner-up Oil and Natural Gas Commission.

The other strong contenders are KSEB, Vijaya Bank, Central Excise (Kochi), Indian Army, EME (Bhopal), MEG, Army Signals (New Delhi), ICF, Bhilai Steel Plant and Diesel Loco Works (Varanasi). The total prize money is Rs. 40,000.
