Plot behind attack on CPI(M) worker alleged

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM,
MAY 5.
The CPI(M) State secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan, has alleged a conspiracy behind the attempt to set ablaze the CPI(M) branch secretary and panchayat member, Shaji, at Velukkara panchayat in Mukundapuram constituency.
In a statement here today, the CPI(M) secretary said unidentified assailants had poured petrol on Shaji and set him ablaze early this morning. The location where the attack had taken place was a CPI(M) stronghold and there was no local-level provocation for the incident. That being the case, the attack could only have been intended to create trouble and reap political mileage during election time, he said.
