Poor response to Sonia's visit: BJP

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 5. The Congress president, Sonia Gandhi's meetings in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam drew "very poor response" from the Congress workers, according to the BJP State president, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai.

At a press conference here today, he said this was a definite indication of the things to come once the polling was over. "The Congress and the UDF are in for a rout in the State," he said.

According to his assessment, hardly 3,000 people had come to the listen to Ms. Gandhi in Thiruvananthapuram as well as Ernakulam. "The Congress leaders here had been saying that more than 50,000 people would attend each of her meetings. He said it was also significant that she did not attack the CPI(M), her party's main enemy in the State, as she was nursing hopes of coming to power with the assistance of the Left parties, he said.
