Ayodhya issue: Muslim Law Board rules out compromise

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MAY 5. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has ruled out any compromise on the Babri Masjid issue. "There is no question of giving up our claim on the disputed site. However, we are prepared to abide by the court verdict even if it goes against us," said the Board president, Moulana Syed Mohammed Rabey Hasan Nadvi.

Addressing the board members of Andhra Pradesh and Muslim intellectuals here on Wednesday, Moulana Nadvi said under the Shariat, once a mosque was built it remained so for ever. For the same reason the mosque could not be gifted away. "We can gift a thing if it is ours. But the mosque belongs to Allah", said Moulana Nadvi.

He saw no point in holding dialogue over the issue if the Muslims were expected to accept the stand of the other side without any documentary evidence. The Board on its part had already submitted evidence in support of its claim in the court. "The talks can be result-oriented only if there is mutual understanding and willingness to listen to the other side," he said.
