Many job opportunities for audiology graduates


THE BANGALORE-BASED Institute of Speech and Hearing is conducting two courses — Bachelor in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology (BSLPA) and Master in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology (MSLPA).

Recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India, the degree course, which is a Bangalore University programme, is open to students who have passed their pre-university examination with a minimum of 50 per cent marks (45 per cent for candidates from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes). They should have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, or Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Graduates and postgraduates from the stream could look for employment opportunities in hospitals, special schools, industries, speech and hearing institutes, hearing instrument manufacturing units, and government and non-governmental agencies working for the disabled. They could also start independent practice.

For the BSLPA course, students will be introduced to speech language and communication, audiology, basic acoustics and electronics, psychology related to speech and hearing, linguistics, articulation and phonological disorders, diagnostic audiology, childhood communication disorders, neuro-communicative disorders in adults, and educational and paediatric audiology.

The degree course is of three-year duration with one year of internship. The institute has a student intake of 35. The last date to apply for this year's batch is May 29. THE TEAM of Saurav Kasera and Sumanth Hegde of A.M.C. Engineering College has secured the second prize in the "Theoretical computer science and electrical engineering" session of a national-level conference held at Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore.

Kasera and Hegde were selected out of 20 students shortlisted from those who submitted papers for presentation.

THE M.V. JAYARAM College of Engineering is ready with another intercollegiate cultural festival, "Swayam 2004." The fest will come alive on the Channasandra campus of the college on Friday and Saturday.

Among the competitions lined up are light Indian vocal music, Western music, antakshari, DJ show, western dance, quiz, dumb charades, extempore debate, turncoat, spin a yarn, technical presentation, sketching, collage, scavenger hunt, creative writing, JAM, and mad-ads. A fusion band, "The Unknown," will perform.

THE C.M.R. Institute of Technology will organise "Cultura 2004," its inter-collegiate techno-cultural fest for engineering colleges, on Friday and Saturday. Students from institutions spread across the State will showcase their talents.

The events on the festival agenda are: quiz, debate, collage, gaming, elocution, skit, antakshari, dumb charades, 20 questions, toggle, cartooning, sketching, Indian dance, Western dance, JAM, stress management, fashion show, and rock show.

The technical activities planned are project exhibition, technical paper presentation, coding, and debugging.

The Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Chairman, N.R. Mohanty, will inaugurate the festival. Kannada film actor Sudeep will be the guest of honour.
