IA flights re-routed

COIMBATORE, MAY 6. The Indian Airlines flight IC 998 with ninety nine passengers on board from Bahrain and Doha which could not land at Kozhikode due to inclement weather was re-routed to Coimbatore via Kochi today.

According to IA sources, the adverse weather conditions at the Kozhikode airport resulted in the re-routing of the flight to Kochi, where all the Kozhikode-bound passengers were transferred to the scheduled Kochi-Kozhikode-Mumbai-New Delhi flight.

The Kochi-Kozhikode-Mumbai-New Delhi flight again made a vain attempt to land at Kozhikode after some time. It was again diverted but this time to Coimbatore.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai-New Delhi-Coimbatore-Kozhikode flight IC 657 that took off from Coimbatore at 11.10 returned to Coimbatore at 12.30, after it could not make a landing at Kozhikode due to bad weather.

It was scheduled to be operated as IC 658 in the return direction and there were as many as 47 passengers bound for Mumbai and New Delhi who were waiting at Coimbatore to travel by that flight. They were transferred to the re-routed flight from Kochi (which already had 57 passengers from Kochi bound for Mumbai and New Delhi). It took off from Coimbatore at 14.55.

The 99 Kozhikode bound passengers from Bahrain and Doha along with the nine stranded passengers from Coimbatore (who were bound for Kozhikode by flight IC 657) were accommodated in the aircraft (IC 657/658) which returned to Coimbatore after it could not land at Kozhikode and the crew for which were brought to Coimbatore from Kozhikode by diverting the Kozhikode-Bahrain-Doha flight.
