WASHINGTON, MAY 6. In a sudden change of course, the White House has said that it will be seeking $25 billions for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for next year bringing about a sharp response from the Democrats who say while they will support the request, the President, George W Bush, is putting out a low figure for political reasons. In the last several weeks, the White House has been saying that it will not seek more money for the wars until next year. But the change of strategy has come against the backdrop of intensified fighting and resistance inside Iraq and with the international uproar over the abuse of Iraqi prisoners, both of which have been taken seriously on Capitol Hill. Law-makers say the new money would have to be appropriated before they break in October for the Presidential and Congressional elections of November 2.
