Cyclone threat: officials on alert

By Our Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM, MAY 6. The district Collector, Sunil Sharma, said on Thursday that the administration was fully geared up to meet the cyclone threat and take up flood relief and rehabilitation measures.

He was replying to the Chief Secretary, Mohan Kanda, who had sounded alert on cyclone during a videoconference with Collectors.

Mr. Sharma said meetings were being held with officials concerned and action plans were already drawn to meet any eventuality.

Earlier, Mr. Kanda advised Collectors to take all preventive measures during cyclone. The material required during cyclone should be inspected and kept ready. The AP Transco, Health and Civil Supplies departments should keep the material and commodities required for use. Awareness should also be created among fishermen to carry radio or transistors along with them while venturing into the sea.

Arrangements should be made for shifting people living in low-lying areas to safer places. He also suggested conducting a mock drill.

The District Revenue Officer, M. Ramakrishna Rao, the RTC Regional Manager, D. Satyanarayana, the AP Transco Superintending Engineer, Gandhibabu, and other officials attended the videoconference.
