Dhaka: Unidentified gunmen on Friday opened fire at an Opposition rally near Bangladesh's capital, killing four persons, including a lawmaker belonging to the Awami League, police said. Ahsanullah Master was shot critically while he was addressing a rally near his house in the industrial town of Tongi, 25 km from Dhaka, they said. Mr. Master was rushed to the Combined Military Hospital where he succumbed to injuries, they said. Three other party members were killed and seven others injured in the firing. Hundreds of angry Opposition protesters took to the streets after the shooting in his constituency of Gazipur in Dhaka. Witnesses said an armed gang of 20 indiscriminately fired gunshots at the podium in front of a school ground in Tongi at about 12.55 p.m. where an annual conference of the Bangladesh Sechha Sebol League, a front organisation of the Awami League, was being held.
