NIZAMABAD, MAY 7. The Telangana Rastra Samiti has asked the Congress to clarify whether it favours the first State Reorganisation Commission report or the second SRC in the event of creation of separate Telangana State. Addressing a press conference on Friday, the TRS district president, A.S. Poshetty, took exception to the "contradictory statements'' being issued by Congress leaders over the SRC. Indirectly referring to the recent statement of the former CLP leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on the SRC, he said the Congress was "raking up the SRC issue'' only with regard to Telangana. He wondered why Congress leaders were silent on the SRC when the parliament passed a bill enabling the creation of Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Uttaranchal States. He questioned why the Congress did not raise the issue of the SRC. He said Congress and TRS leaders had struck an alliance only after clarification on the SRC was given. But after the elections, the Congress appeared to be changing its stand, he alleged. Mr. Poshetty termed "unfortunate'' the stand taken by some Congress leaders. He said even the AICC chief, Sonia Gandhi, had agreed that Telangana lagged in terms of development. He said Ms. Sonia Gandhi had said the Congress Government would strive to develop the region. He said if the Congress-TRS combine romped home in the Assembly elections the Congress should respect the sentiments of people of Telangana and take necessary steps to ensure a separate State is carved out in shortest possible time. He said way back in 1969 people of Telangana had given their verdict through ballot by electing 11 Telangana Praja Samiti candidates. The TRS leader took exception to Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy's comments on Hyderabad. He said no leader should question the existence of Hyderabad as it was an integral part of Telangana. It was only after Andhra State was carved out that the rulers had declared Hyderabad as its capital.
