MADURAI, MAY 7. After a five-day stay in the city, Lord Sundararajaperumal left for his abode on the `pushpa pallakku' (flower palanquin) today. The deity arrived at the Ramanathapuram Sethupati Mandapam near Karuppanna Swamy Temple for the flower arrangement. Adorned with flowers, the Lord left the mandapam in the early hours. Within minutes of the deity coming out, there was a mad rush to grab flowers on the palanquin. "The `pushpa pallakku' was originally referred as `vidaiyatri chappram' (sending off) but later it was changed, as on the last day of the `brahmotsavam', the Lord would be adorned with flowers. Hence, the practice of decorating the deity with the flowers on the last day of His stay in the city was followed. The Lord, once again decorated with the `Kallar kondai' and with the `valai thadi' in his hand, leaves the city in `Kallazhagar' attire," said A. S. Parasamy Bhattar, Archakam Stanikam Miras, Lord Sundararajaperumal Temple, Alagarkoil. The Lord reached Sundararajanpatti where special abishekams were performed at the Maravar Kandapam of Sivaganga Raja Kattalai. By tomorrow, the deity will reach Alagarkovil. The `utsava santhi' will be performed on May 9 to mark the end of the festival.
