WASHINGTON, MAY 8. Relations between India and Pakistan have shown a "marked improvement" in the last two years, according to the United States Secretary of State, Colin Powell. In an interview to AFP he said he was glad that even while going through a massive election process at present, India was continuing to hold talks with Pakistan to enhance ties. "The Indians and Pakistanis continue to talk to one another, continue to improve relations. They are following the roadmap that they laid out for themselves in January. This is a marked improvement for where we were a year and a half or so ago, when the whole world held its breath as the two armies got closer and closer to each other on the border and there was a likelihood of conflict that might escalate, some people thought, to nuclear conflict."
