Confusion ends over World Cup bids
BRIDGETOWN: Trinidad and Tobago's submission was overdue but accepted as one of 11 Caribbean countries bidding to host matches for the 2007 cricket World Cup.
There was some confusion when the bid by Trinidad and Tobago which features the region's largest cricket stadium at Port-of-Spain wasn't lodged until more than an hour after the official deadline on Thursday (May 6).
But organisers' spokesman Chris Dehring said on Friday it would be considered by the venue assessment team.
The Bahamas did not bid as expected, said Dehring, manager director of ICC Cricket World Cup Inc., the company set up by the West Indies Cricket Board to run the tournament.
The ninth World Cup is set for April and May 2007 at eight venues for first-round matches, quarterfinals, semifinals and final a total of 51 matches. AP
