`Drop move

to hike

petrol price'

KOCHI, MAY 8. K. Chandran Pillai, Rajya Sabha member, has criticised the move to hike the prices of petroleum products after the elections. Pointing out that the oil companies were raising the prices only marginally in the international market, he said the Union Government was helping the profit-making companies to raise the prices. He said this was in spite of the fact that these companies had made an increase in profit by more than 50 per cent in 2003-04. The industry will be badly affected by the proposed hike which would have a cascading effect in the consumer State of Kerala.

Arts festival

at AIMS

Students and faculty of medicine, dentistry and nursing under the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetom (AVV) celebrated Pranavam 2004, an arts festival, on the Healthcare campus of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) on Saturday. The cine star, Bhavana, released the college magazine called Smriti. The secretary of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Swami Poornamritananda Puri, inaugurated the function and gave the benedictory address. The Medical Director of AIMS, Prem Nair, and the Dean, Faculty of Medicine of AVV, D.M. Vasudevan, spoke on the occasion. Students received prizes from the guest and they also presented an entertainment programme.

Model test

The model entrance examination organised by the Students Federation of India (SFI) for students appearing for the entrance examination for LLB course will be held on May 16 at the Government Law College, Ernakulam.
