Ranganath Shenoy remembered

By Our Staff Correspondent

UDUPI, MAY 9. The Judge of the Karnataka High Court, P. Vishwanath Shetty, said here on Sunday that the former MP of Udupi, late Parkala Ranganath Shenoy, had rendered invaluable service to the people as a parliamentarian and social worker. He was speaking after releasing the book, Rangadarpana, focussing on the life and times of Ranganath Shenoy, at a memorial function organised by the Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Research Centre here.

Mr. Shetty said that Ranganath Shenoy was alive in the memory of the people due to his work. People should follow the ideals of Ranganath Shenoy. All persons should be true to their profession and work to attain excellence in it, as was done by Shenoy, he said.

The MLC, V.S. Acharya, said that though he then belonged to the Bharatiya Jan Sangh and Ranganath Shenoy to the Congress, the latter had always treated him with kindness and given him advice at a critical juncture. This had left a deep impression on him. Ranganath Shenoy was a simple and friendly person, he said.

The former MLA, U.R. Sabhapathy, said Ranganath Shenoy was his political guru. Whatever position he had attained in politics was owing to Shenoy. He recalled that Shenoy had got elected to the All-India Congress Committee, which was an achievement.

Shenoy was fearless and he was among the few persons who had protested against the imposition of Emergency by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, he said.
