UDUPI, MAY 9. V.S. Acharya, MLC, on Sunday demanded a Corps of Detectives (CoD) inquiry into the recent murder of the co-convener of the Hiriyadka unit of Bajrang Dal, Sudhakar Poojary, at Hiriyadka. He told presspersons here that the district police were trying to close the case by taking the accused, Santosh Poojary, into judicial custody. But there were many loose ends to the case, which a delegation headed by him had pointed out to the Superintendent of Police, S. Murugan. But Mr. Murguan was busy issuing press statements saying that both Sudhakar and Santosh were criminals. He said such a murder could not be the handiwork of just one person, Santosh Poojary, as pointed out by the police. The police should unravel those behind the conspiracy to murder Sudhakar Poojary. The lower rung of the district police, especially in Manipal and Hiriyadka police stations, was prejudiced against Sudhakar. Mr. Murugan had so far not given any clarification to the seven queries posed by him. He would take up the issue with senior police officials in Bangalore on Monday, Dr. Acharya said. The President of the BJP district unit, K. Raghupati Bhat, said that police was involved in the case. He produced telephone records to show that Santosh had made a call from a telephone booth at Kudi to the Hiryadka police station soon after the murder. He asked why the accused would make a call to the police station soon after the murder. What did he tell the Hiriyadka police? Mr. Murugan was not even aware that Santosh had made the call until the BJP delegation told him about it. Santosh had come to the spot of crime on the motorcycle of a police constable, Jaya, and had left the spot of the crime again on it. Many of these questions required an answer from Mr. Murugan. If the police and the Government tried to cover up the case, the BJP would launch a protest, Mr. Bhat warned.
