THANJAVUR, MAY 9 . The Electronic Voting Machines were sent to the headquarters of six Assembly segments in the Thanjavur Lok Sabha constituency today. They were taken in trucks from the Thiruvaiyaru taluk office to Papanasam, Orathanadu, Thiruvonam, Valangaiman and Thanjavur. The Collector, S. Kosalaraman, and Returning Officer for the constituency oversaw the operation. Agents of candidates and Assistant Returning Officers were present when the machines were transported. They will be taken to the polling booths for Monday's polling. The Collector said there were 1,004 polling booths in the constituency, and 1,004 EVMS had been sent from Thiruvaiyaru. He said polling would start at 7 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Those who were in the queue at the stroke of five would be allowed to vote, and those who came thereafter would not be. The candidates could use seven vehicles one for the candidate, and six others for each Assembly segment. They should bear the permission chit given by the authorities.

In the counting centre, separate sections had been formed for counting the votes polled in each Assembly segment. Barricades had been erected in front of the college. The trends would be announced through the public address system. The Collector inspected the polling booths in places identified as sensitive areas. He inspected more than 20 polling booths at Orathanadu, Okkanadu, Thennamanadu, Papanadu, Okkanadu Melaiyur and Mela Ulur.
