THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 9. The BJP State president, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, said today that the Congress-led alliance would not be able to provide a stable Government at the Centre. Addressing a press conference here, the BJP leader said that various Opposition parties had met across the table and vowed to fight the elections united, on August 14 last year. However, now Mulayam Singh Yadav, Laloo Prasad Yadav and the Left were moving on parallel lines. The diversity and differences among them were obvious. They could not stand together, he said. He said the Opposition was focussing its campaign on emotional issues instead of discussing serious economic and other issues. Politics had become a family welfare programme for the Congress while the CPI(M) was adamant that it would not forgo Stalinism and the politics of violence, he said. He said the conditions were favourable for the BJP opening an account in Kerala. The minorities too were coming forward to support the party. The BJP believed that all religions should have the freedom to propagate its values and flourish, he said. He said the BJP had brought to the notice of the authorities concerned some attempts to defile churches with the party symbol and posters with the intention of tarnishing the image of the BJP. The BJP would never do such acts. There were indications that more such attempts would be made in Thiruvananthapuram and Muvattupuzha tonight by the party's opponents, he alleged.
