Illicit liquor seized; four held

NEW DELHI, MAY 9. With only hours to go for the fourth and last round of polling for the Lok Sabha elections, the Delhi police seized 12,000 bottles during raids conducted in various parts of the Capital. Four persons, including a woman, have been arrested in this connection.

Early this morning, the Crime Branch received a tip-off that a person named Lalit had stocked huge quantity of illicit liquor in a godown at Samaipur village in North-West Delhi. Subsequently, a police team mounted a raid and seized 11,428 bottles of country-made liquor. During interrogation, Lalit disclosed that the consignment had been stocked in the godown the previous day.

In another case, the Nandnagri police arrested a woman, Reena, after they recovered 240 bottles of country-made liquor from her possession. Pawan, a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly indulging in bootlegging. The police recovered 40 bottles from his belongings.

According to the police, another person identifying himself as Ramesh Kumar was arrested from Gokalpuri during the drive.

All the accused have been booked under the Excise Act. Further investigations are on.
