KOCHI, MAY 11. A group of cinema workers led by the production executive, Shibu Kuttimood, and the script writer, Mahesh Mitra, today blamed the Malayalam film stars for the continuing crisis in the industry. They drew from a variety of sources including Kadammanitta's poetry to underscore their point that cinema workers at the lower level like light boys and production executives were on the brink of starvation due to the feud between film producers and artistes. These cinema workers had not been heard as they had no voice in the industry, said Mr. Kuttimood at a press conference here. He appealed to the stars to recall how they became what they are today and to look upon all cinema workers in the industry with a little more sympathy. He dubbed the artiste's association, AMMA, `assassins' because the association would pave the way for the virtual death of the Malayalam movie. The current crisis had allowed films in other languages to penetrate the Kerala market and if this continued Malayalam film industry would come to a grinding halt, he warned.
