KOCHI, MAY 11. The 12th Padmarajan Puraskaram for the best short story and film have been awarded to S.V. Venugopan Nair and T.V. Chandran respectively. Announcing this at a press conference here today, the chairman of the jury, C.P. Nair, said the film, `Paadam Onnu oru vilaapam', directed by T.V. Chandran based on a story by Aryadan Shoukath, was selected for the award by a committee consisting of Gandhimathi Balan and Vinu Abraham. While a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 and statuette would be presented to the director of the film, a sum of Rs. 10,000 would be presented to the scriptwriter. A citation would also be presented to the producer of the film. The Padmarajan Puraskaram for short story would be presented to S.V. Venugopan Nair for his work, `Bandhanasthanaaya Aniruddhan', which was published in the Kalakaumudi magazine last year. The award was decided by a committee headed by M.G. Sasibhooshan with Sunil Parameswaran and K.S. Ravikumar as members. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and a statuette. The awards, instituted by the Padmarajan Memorial Trust in memory of the film director, P. Padmarajan, would be presented at a function in connection with the birthday of Padmarajan, at the Tagore Theatre on May 23.
