DINDIGUL, MAY 11 . The Palani, Dindigul and Periyakulam constituencies registered a marginal increase in voter turnout in the elections for the Lok Lok Sabha held yesterday, compared to the 1999 elections. About 60.6 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the Dindigul constituency, 63.98 per cent in Palani and 66.20 per cent in Periyakulam. There was 3.18 per cent increase in voter turnout in Dindigul and 5.1 per cent more in Palani. The Periyakulam constituency registered 6.7 per cent increase in voter turnout, compared to 1999 polls. In the 1999 elections, voter turnout was 59.5 per cent in Periyakulam, 57.42 per cent in Dindigul and 58.88 per cent in Palani. Of the total 11,34,635 voters in the Dindigul constituency, 6,88,564 votes were polled, of which 4,46,939 voters used the Election Commission photo-identity cards. Of the total 5,50,578 men voters, 3,55,204 cast their votes and 3,33,360 women out of the total 5,84,057 women cast their votes. Though women voters outnumbered men voters in all six segments of the Dindigul constituency, the female voter turnout was low. While women turnout was 57 per cent, men turnout was 64 per cent in the Dindigul constituency. The total voter turnout in the Thirumangalam Assembly segment was 1,11,157 of which 57,115 were men and 54,042 women. In Usilampatti, men voter turnout was 42,993 and women voters were 40,727 and the total is 83,720. In Nilakottai, the total voter turnout was 1,16,113 of which men were 59,816 and women 56,297. Of the total 1,03,643 voter turnout in the Sholavandhan Assembly segment, 53,264 were men and 50,379 women. In Dindigul, the total voter turnout was 1,43,091 and men and women were 75,464 and 67,627 respectively. In the Athoor segment, the total votes polled were 1,30,840 and men were 66,552 and women 64,288. Even as women voters outnumbered men in the Palani constituency, women voter turnout was 59 per cent only and men was 68.71 per cent. Of the total 10,88,442 voters, the voter turnout was 6,94,124 of which men were 3,66,271 and women 3,27,853. About 4,65,011 voters used the EPIC. The total voter turnout in the Vellakoil Assembly segment was 1,09,217 of which 58,260 were men and 50,957 women. In Kangeyam, the men voter turnout was 61,055 and women 49,601 and the total was 1,10,656. In Palani, the total voter turnout was 1,10,643 of which men were 59,461 and women 51,182. Of the total 1,05,470 voter turnout in Oddanchatram, 55,138 were men and 50,332 women. In Natham, the total voter turnout was 1,18,357 and men and women were 60,587 and 57,770 respectively. In the Vedasanthur segment, the total voter turnout was 1,39,781 and men were 71,770 and female 68,011.
Theni district
In the Periyakulam constituency in Theni district, the voter turnout was 66.20 per cent. Of the total 10,52,130 voters, the turnout was 6,96,485 of which 3,55,484 were men and 3,41,001 women. The Andipatti segment topped in the constituency, with 68.27 per cent of voter turnout and Periyakulam was lowest with 64.4 per cent. About 3,56,354 voters used election photo identity card for voting. The total voter turnout in the Periyakulam Assembly segment was 1,25,051 of which 65,098 were men and 59,953 women. In Theni, men voter turnout was 65,731 and women 62,147 and the total was 1,27,878 voters. In Bodi, the total voter turnout was 1,08,878 of which men were 55,348 and women 53,530. Of the total 1,13,030 voter turnout in Cumbum, 56,905 were men and 56,125 were women. In Andipatti, the total voter turnout was 1,25,770 and men and women were 65,088 and 60,682 respectively. In Sedapatti segment, the total voter turnout was 95,878 and men were 47,314 and women 48,564.
