JAMMU,
MAY 11.
The Congress leader was in charge of the party's election campaign in Andhra Pradesh and he had notched up similar performances wherever he was made in charge, including Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to The Hindu here, Mr. Azad said, "The party will do well in the rest of the country too, and surely the results in Andhra Pradesh will be the curtain-raiser to a similar fate for the National Democratic Alliance elsewhere in the country."
According to him, the entire party cadre worked in unison under his leadership to defeat the Chandrababu Naidu-led Government.
He said, "We tried to satisfy the aspirations of the people by presenting them with a vision." In the 2002 Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, he single-handedly raised the morale of the Congress and the party is now the largest partner in the coalition Government. Asked what would be his next job, Mr. Azad said, ``to ensure the victory of the party in the Maharashtra Assembly elections."
