MYSORE, MAY 11. In an effort to showcase the talent and efforts of technical students in the State, the Akhila Bharathiya Vidyarthi Parishath (ABVP) will organise Srishti-2004, a technical expo, at Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) here from May 19. Making the announcement to presspersons here today, the convener of ABVP, Satyanarayana, said that the technical expo would witness the participation of over 25,000 students in 116 engineering colleges in the State. The expo would have projects completed by students as part of course curriculum. The technical exhibition would be inaugurated by the Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Madhavan Nair. The inaugural function would be attended by top scientists including K. Kasturirangan and U.R. Rao. He said that the expo would showcase the efforts of more than 25,000 students and over 6,000 teachers, and that the value of the projects put together was estimated at over Rs. 1.3 crore. Prof. Satyanarayana said that this was third in a series of technical expos organised by the ABVP, and the earlier programmes were held at K.L.E. College, Belgaum, and PESIT College, Bangalore. While the technical exhibition in Belguam attracted 257 projects, the one in Bangalore saw 380 projects, he added. On the events that had been planned during the exhibition, he said an industry-institute interaction had been arranged on May 20, and experts from the industry would participate. A workshop on entrepreneurship would be held on May 21. The projects would be assessed and prizes and cash awards worth Rs. 1.2 lakh presented. The first, second, and third prizes would comprise Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000, and Rs. 2,000. Consolation prizes would also be given. The college that received the maximum marks in projects would receive a championship trophy, he added. He said a documentary on the contribution of the country to the field of science and technology would be shown. A technical advisory committee had been formed to scrutinise projects and select them for the exhibition. M.H. Dhananjaya would head the committee that would comprise teachers and principals of colleges.
