There was not a single independent from the region in the dissolved House but four of them have won this time. The strength of women has remained the same with nine of them getting elected.

The TRS rode the crest of Telangana wave in Warangal and Karimnagar districts where it won 11 seats in all. The party also did well in winning all the three seats it contested in Nizamabad and four of the five seats in Medak. The party has come a long way since its formation in April 2001.

Telangana which was a forgotten issue after the 1971 general elections surfaced for the first time now. The Telangana Praja Samithi (TPS) had won 10 of the 14 seats it contested for the Parliament in the region at that time but the party merged with the Congress subsequently.
