Communists regain past glory

By Our Staff Reporter

NALGONDA, MAY 11. The Communists who led many a mass movement including the famous Telangana Armed struggle regained their past glory in this elections.

While the former CPI (M) legislators, Nomula Narasimhaiah (Nakrekal), and Julakanti Ranga Reddy (Miryalaguda), won the seats hands down, two new faces of the CPI -- Palla Venkat Reddy (Munugode), and Ravindra Kumar (Devarakonda) -- also sailed through easily. Mr.Ranga Reddy, who undertook fast-unto-death for 10 days demanding irrigation waters to Nagarjunasagar left canal farmers, defeated an IPS officer, Poreddy Chandrasekhar Reddy, of the TDP by a margin of 31,155 votes, the highest in the district. Notwithstanding the presence of the TRS candidate, Tippana Vijayasimha Reddy, in the fray he won the election with a massive majority.

However, the CPI (M) candidate for the Nalgonda Assembly segment, Nandhyala Narasimha Reddy, who gave a tough fight for the Congress and TDP candidates, K.Venkat Reddy and G. Sukhender Reddy respectively, had to bite the dust. He could secure only 31,527 votes. The party candidate for Bhongir segment, Mandula Suvarna, also lost the election but polled 22,703 votes.
