HYDERABAD, MAY 11. The Telugu Desam Party supremo and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, said today that he respected the people's verdict with "humility" and that his party would play a constructive and positive role in the Opposition. Addressing a press conference at his Jubilee Hills residence after the Congress swept the Assembly polls, he said that he valued the wisdom of the people and thanked them for having given him the opportunity to serve as Chief Minister for nine years. He also expressed gratitude to those who had supported his party. The TDP would support all the good policies of the new Government while keeping the State's interests paramount. "We will do our best for the good of the State," he said. On the reasons for the resounding verdict against his Government, he said that it had to be analysed "in depth" to find out whether the people merely wanted a change or whether there was some other reason. "Whatever be the reason we will fully abide by the people's verdict." Asserting that he had no "regrets," he said he was "satisfied" with the hard work put in by his Government over the last nine years to develop Andhra Pradesh into a "model State." Asked if it was a mandate against the reforms, he said reforms took place all over the world and that his Government took up the development process with conviction. "We went to the people on certain issues and they gave their verdict." On whether it was a "negative" vote against the TDP, Mr. Naidu said the results had to be analysed as nobody expected such uniform trends. He said that good people with character had also lost and the reason behind it had to be examined.
