HYDERABAD, MAY 12. In a frank admission over the severe electoral drubbing received by the Telugu Desam Party, its spokesperson and senior leader, C. Ramachandraiah, said people had "rejected" it because they were not happy with the Government's performance. Talking to reporters at NTR Bhavan, the TDP headquarters, he said: "It is obvious that the Government's functioning was not liked. People have rejected us. We will honour their verdict. This type of drubbing was not expected by us. We thought it would be a close fight. We failed to read the pulse of people," he added. The party would do a post-mortem of the results to find out what went wrong -- whether the policies at the macro-level needed a re-look or if they were not properly implemented at the micro-level. Meanwhile, the TDP president, N. Chandrabu Naidu, said that the party's Politburo would meet after the Lok Sabha results were declared and review the situation. He said the party's annual conference - Mahanadu -- would be held here later this month. TDP sources said it would be held on May 28 and 29. `Bid to implicate MLA-elect in murder case': Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam alleged that the police in Warangal district were being pressured by local Congress leaders to implicate the MLA-elect, E. Dayakar Rao, in a murder case and urged the Director-General of Police, S. R. Sukumara, to order a probe either by the CB-CID or an IPS officer into the death of one Sudhakar, whose body was found on the outskirts of Dharmaram village on May 10. A delegation of TDP leaders met the DGP and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
