63 per cent pass in Perambalur

PERAMBALUR, MAY 12. Perambalur district recorded 63 per cent pass in the Plus-Two examinations held in March this year, results of which were announced today.

Of 9,343 candidates — 5,332 boys and 4,011 girls, who appeared for the examination, 5,855 students came out successful. A total of 3,056 boys and 2,799 girls passed. While boys registered 57 per cent pass, girls recorded 70 per cent pass.

The Perambalur revenue district-level first rank went to I. Chandrarekha, a student of the CSI Higher Secondary School in Ariyalur, who secured 1,156 marks. P. Ilangovan of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Perambalur (1,150 marks) and S. Vidhya of Sri Ramakrishna Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Perambalur (1,148 marks) secured the second and third rank respectively.

The Chief Educational Officer, N. S. Vasu, said seven schools achieved cent per cent pass in the district. All students of the Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sri Ramakrishna Matriculation Higher Secondary School, St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School, Saradadevi Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Montford Matriculation Higher Secondary School, all in Perambalur, Sri Vivekananda Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Arumbavur and Sri Ramakrishna Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Ariyalur came out successful.

The Perambalur revenue district comprised Perambalur, Ariyalur and Udayarpalayam educational districts. Mr. Vasu said Perambalur educational district registered 78 per cent pass (2,018 students emerging successful out of a total 2,594), while Ariyalur educational district recorded 61 per cent pass (1,749 out of 2,848) and the Udayarpalayam educational district achieved 54 per cent pass (2,088 out of 3,901).
