Tight security at counting centres

KOCHI, MAY 12 . Counting of votes for the Ernakulam and Muvattupuzha Lok Sabha constituencies will begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow. The preliminary results are expected by 11 a.m.

Counting will be held at 14 centres in Ernakulam and Muvattupuzha. Postal votes will be counted at the District Collectorate.

There will be 10 tables at each counting centre. Counting of votes cast in 10 booths each will be conducted in each round. Around 900 officials will participate in the counting process. Training for the officials was completed here today.

Counting is expected to be over by 12 noon. The District Collector, in a communication, said that all arrangements had been made for the smooth conduct of counting. Counting will be conducted for votes cast in 989 and 951 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the Ernakulam and Muvattupuzha Lok Sabha constituencies respectively. Around 6,59,176 voters in Ernakulam and 7,44,193 voters in Muvattupuzha had exercised their franchise in the elections held on Monday.

Tight security arrangements have been put in place for the counting. Arrangements have been completed for getting the details of counting through hotline, telephone and fax facilities.

A media centre has been set up at the Collectorate. Results of the 20 Lok Sabha seats in the State, including Ernakulam and Muvattupuzha, will be available at the media centre.

The counting centres in the Ernakulam Lok Sabha constituency are: Paravoor (S.N.H.S.S, Pullamkulam), Njarakkal (G.V.H.S, Njarakkal), Ernakulam (G.H.S.S for Girls', Ernakulam), Mattanchery (T.D.T.T.I, Mattanchery), Palluruthy (S.R.V.H.S auditorium), Tripunitura (Maharajas centenary auditorium) and Aluva (G.H.S.S auditorium, Aluva).

The counting centres in the Muvattupuzha Lok Sabha constituency are: Kunnathunad (G.G.H.S, Perumbavur), Piravom (Nirmala Junior School, Muvattupuzha), Muvattupuzha (G.U.P.S, Kothamangalam), Kanjirappilly (St. Dominic Boys High School), Poonjar (St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Pala), Pala (St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Pala).
