Jammu & Kashmir
SRINAGAR, MAY 13 . Ruling out any threat to the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, minister for rural development and senior Congress leader Pirzada Mohammad Sayeed today said the ``friendly contest'' between the Congress and the PDP in Baramulla parliamentary constituency has led to the victory of opposition National Conference. ``The friendly contest between Congress and PDP in Baramulla created confusion among the voters and became the cause for victory of NC,'' Pirzada told PTI. The state Congress headquarters along Maulana Azad road in the heart of Srinagar wore a festive look as workers and supporters of the party rushed to the office to share joy over the election results. The NC retained Srinagar and Baramulla Lok Sabha seats but lost Anantnag to its arch rival PDP. The PDP president Mehbooba Mufti made a maiden entry to Parliament by wresting the seat from NC. Pirzada, however, said, ``there was no threat to the nearly 20-month-old coalition government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. There is no threat to the government as results of parliamentary elections will have no bearing on the government in the state''. The Congress leader said the results of elections show the charisma, dedication and hard work of party chief Sonia Gandhi.
