HOSHIARPUR, MAY 13. The BJP-SAD leaders, including Tikshan Sood, Des Raj Dhugga, Sohan Singh Thandal, Balbir Singh Miaini (all MLAs) joined the procession where sweets were distributed and bhangra was performed. Mr Khanna polled 2,89,815 votes, Darshan Singh Mattu 1,85,444 while sitting MP Charanjit Singh Channi who contested as BSP candidate finished third with 1,56,270 votes. Meanwhile, Mr Khanna talking to newsmen said the electorate in Punjab have given a clear mandate against the non-performance of the Captain Amarinder Singh government. He demanded that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh quit his office after the Lok Sabha results. He said the landslide victory of BJP-SAD in the state was due to overall performance of the NDA government . Replying to a question, he said Hoshiarpur district remained backward even after 58 years of Independence. There was a basic need to provide irrigation and drinking water supply in Kandi and Bet areas of the district. He said he would make every effort to ensure completion of the second phase of Kandi canal from Hoshiarpur to Balachaur.
