Heat wave continues unabated

NEW DELHI, MAY 13. Day temperatures were appreciably above normal in West Bengal and Sikkim, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and were above normal in Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, north Konkan, north Chattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

They were appreciably below normal in Saurashtra and Kutch, north Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha and south Chattisgarh and were below normal in Assam, Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat region, south Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana and south interior Karnataka. They were normal over the rest of the country.

Isolated heavy rain is likely to occur at many places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and at isolated places in Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Gujarat state, Maharashtra and Goa states, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep. Mainly dry weather will prevail over the rest of the country. Isolated heavy rain have occurred at most places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Very light rain had occurred at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir, west Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal and south interior Karnataka and Kerala.

Rain or thundershowers have occurred at many places in Assam and Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and at a few places in east Rajasthan, Gujarat region and at isolated places in east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Saurashtra and Kutch, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Lakshadweep. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country.

The chief amounts of rainfall recorded in cms are: Visakhapatnam Airport 2 and Calingapatnam and Hyderabad airport 1 each.

On Wednesday, the maximum temperature rose at a few places over North Tamil Nadu, at one or two places over Rayalaseema, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, fell appreciably at one or two places over south Tamil Nadu, Telangana, fell at one or two places over North Interior Karnataka and changed a little elsewhere over the region.

They were above normal at one or two places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Karnataka, appreciably below normal at one or two places over North Interior Karnataka, Telangana, below normal at one or two places over South Interior Karnataka, North Tamilnadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, rest Telangana and were generally normal over rest of the region.

Retachintala and Medak recorded the highest maximum temperature of 42 degree Celsius in the region.

Weather forecast valid until the morning of 15th May 2004 is isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
