Dejected Mudragada to quit politics

By Our Correspondent

KAKINADA, MAY 13. Noted Kapu Nadu leader and one of the Telugu Desam Party stalwarts, Mudragada Padmanabham, said here on Thursday

in the wake of his defeat in the Lok Sabha elections from Kakinada that he was quitting politics once for all.

Speaking to newsmen at the counting centre, Mr. Padmanabham said he was pained to note that his services went unnoticed and people had rejected him.

Mr. Padmanabham, who yielded enormous influence in the TDP as its Politburo member and Minister in NTR's Cabinet, seemed visibly upset over the election outcome.

He said during his political career spread over twentysix years, he never had any "black spot". He said he would not comment upon the reasons for the major election debacle faced by the TDP.

Mr. Padmanabham said that he was reluctant to contest this time but because of the pressure exerted by his followers and the TDP leadership, he was forced to seek re-election from the Kakinada Lok Sabha constituency.
