Congress breaks jinx in 27 TDP bastions

HYDERABAD, MAY 13. The Congress broke the jinx of failure in some traditional bastions of the Telugu Desam Party since its formation in 1983 spread across the Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana regions, by winning in these places.

Congress candidates emerged victorious in 27 of the constituencies. These assembly segments where they won are Ichapuram, Tekkali, Srikakulam, Etcherla (Srikakulam district), Cheepurupalli, Vizianagaram, Bhogapuram, Uttarapalli, Srungavarapukota (Vizianagaram), Bheemunipatnam, Madugula, Anakapalle, Paravada, Elamanchili, Payakaraopet (Visakhapatanam), Tallarevu (East Godavari), Undi, Tanuku, Gopalapuram (West Godavari), Kankipadu (Krishna), Prathipadu, Narsaraopet (Guntur), Martur (Prakasam), Puttoor (Chittoor), Kodur, Jammalamadugu (Cuddapah) and Banswada (Nizamabad).

The fledgling Telangana Rashtra Samiti snatched the Yellareddy and Dichpalli seats in Nizamabad district and Chennur in Adilabad district. The TDP retained the Tuni, Bhogapuram, Narsapur, Payakaraopet and Yellavaram and Hindupur seats.
