HYDERABAD, MAY 13. Hundreds of Prudential Cooperative Bank depositors have urged the Chief Minister-designate, Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy, not to induct MLAs who are defaulters of cooperative banks and those with criminal record into his Cabinet. The Prudential Cooperative Bank Shareholders and Depositors Welfare Association general secretary, Pattem Surya Prakash Rao, in a release today said that just as the Congress had taken note of the plight of farmers, it should also address the grievances of thousands of retired persons who had deposited life earnings in cooperative banks in the hope of a steady interest. He appealed to the Congress Government to review the position of cooperative banks. It should take measures for their revival and recovery of sums running into crores of rupees from borrowers.
Pensioners want DA release
The Joint Action Committee of Pensioners Association of Andhra Pradesh has urged Dr. Reddy to fulfil the promises made to pensioners and employees. P.V. They said a meeting should be convened to meet their long-pending demands like payment of pension to retired employees, introduction of medical insurance scheme and provision of houses/sites.
Struggle panel demand
Meanwhile, the Struggle Committee Against Caste Discrimination has appealed to the new Government to provide reservations in the private sector, fill backlog posts, sanction loans to Scheduled Castes/STs at low interest rates and free power under the one-bulb scheme. John Wesley, general secretary, in a statement on Wednesday said the Government should work sincerely to achieve social justice. The Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union asked the Congress Government to take up the integrated child development scheme and discontinue policies allegedly dictated by the World Bank that were detrimental to the working class.
