8 labourers rescued

SRIKAKULAM,
MAY 15.
Eight persons from Srikakulam district forced to work in Rajasthan for making railway sleepers have been freed by the Ichhapuram police. The police said two brokers from Orissa -- Gasya Simhachalam Malik And Sillu Poyi - allegedly lured 10 youths from Edupuram in Ichhapuram mandal offering employment in Mumbai and free lodge and boarding. However, they were taken to a private engineering company at Kambapur in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan.
They were denied wages for work, tortured and also not given food and shelter. The Superintendent of Police, Y. Nagi Reddy, said two youths managed to escape and reported the matter to the Ichhapuram police.
D.S.R.V.S.S. Murthy, SI, and two constables went to Rajasthan, got the labourers released and made the management pay the wages due to them.
