By Our Special Correspondent
KOZHIKODE, MAY 15. The Sri Lankan flights being introduced between Colombo and Kozhikode would be operated on four days every week, Mohammed Fazeel, Regional Manager of SriLankan Airlines, announced at a press conference here on Friday night. The services to be operated on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays would earn the airline the distinction of becoming the first non-Indian airline to operate regular services to Kozhikode airport. The inaugural flight would be on July 1. The 90-minute flight will leave Colombo at 9 a.m. to reach Kozhikode at 9-50 a.m. (All times local. There is a time difference of 30 minutes between the two countries). The airline official said the frequency of flights would be increased in the near future and would be up to a daily frequency before long in keeping with the airline's policy to have daily flights to as many of its destinations as possible. There would be connecting flights to other destinations from Colombo for the passengers boarding from Kozhikode. Special holiday packages were also being drawn up. With the launch of Kozhikode flight, the airlines would have 66 flights to 10 cities in India. More flights to India were being planned. The flight to Kozhikode would be serviced by an Airbus A320 aircraft. The airfare was expected to be around Rs.9,000, Mr. Fazeel said. SriLankan Airlines would be represented in Kozhikode by General Sales Agent, Trans Lanka Travels, 1st Floor, Sajina Building, Kozhikode 600 027.
