Aravinda Rao takes over as Intelligence chief

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MAY 15. The senior IPS officer, K Aravinda Rao, on Saturday took over as Additional DGP of the State's Intelligence wing. He replaces IPS officer, K Durga Prasad.

The new Intelligence chief met the Director-General of Police, SR Sukumara, on Saturday afternoon and later went to his office, where he was welcomed by other senior IPS officers. Mr. Aravinda Rao held a meeting with his colleagues for over half an hour. "Intelligence officials never addressed a press conference and I want to follow that trend," he told waiting mediapersons.

Mr. Aravinda Rao, a 1977 batch IPS officer, earlier worked as Additional Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad. Before taking over as Intelligence chief, he worked as Vigilance and Enforcement Director-General. Mr. Rao has also written a book on naxalites.

This was the first major shuffling in the Police Department after Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy took over as Chief Minister. More transfers are likely to be effected in the coming days.
