Waiver of power dues will benefit 30,000 ryots

By Our Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR, MAY 15. The waiver of farm power bill dues announced by the new Government in the State will benefit about 50,000 farmers in the district. The dues run into Rs. 30 crores . According to the electricity officials, there are about 1.3 lakh farm connections in the district. The average monthly revenue from the connections is Rs. 3 crores. As the State Government has announced free supply of power to the farm sector, the farmers will also get the benefit of about Rs. 36 crores per year. The farming community in the district is joyous about the benefit announced by the new Government as the district is know for suffering severe drought conditions in three out of every four years. Waiver of the farm power dues has also provided great relief to the farmers as `harassment' by the CPDC staff for payment of dues and confiscation of starters of pumpsets will remain a forgettable past.

Free power to consumers who utilise up to 15 units per month will benefit 30,000 families in the district. Of the 5,79,938 domestic consumers in the district, 3,07,830 families are utilising more than 250 units (kilo watt hours) per month, while the remaining 2,78,108 families are consuming less than 250 units per month.
