Alappuzha
By Our Staff Reporter
ALAPPUZHA, MAY 15. The newly elected Member of Parliament from the Mavelikara Lok Sabha constituency, C.S. Sujatha, has said that she would give emphasis to solving the shortage of drinking water in various parts of Mavelikara constituency. Speaking at a Meet-the-Press programme organised by the Alappuzha Press Club here today, Ms. Sujatha said that drinking water shortage was very acute in the constituency during summer. "My immediate priority would be to formulate a long-term plan to ensure that drinking water shortage does not occur during the next summer," she said. Ms. Sujatha said she would strive to start more industries in the constituency and reopen the industries which had been closed. More opportunities would be provided to women in the industrial sector, she said. She said she would strive to encourage non-resident Keralites to invest capital in the constituency to provide more job opportunities. Ms. Sujata also promised to strive to get the Pampa Action Plan implemented. She noted that the Onattukara region in the constituency had remained backward and steps should be taken to develop it. She opined that the infighting in the UDF had affected development work in Mavelikara. She added that the infighting had helped the LDF in the elections. On her victory, Ms. Sujatha said the women voters had preferred her. According to Ms. Sujatha, members of Kudumbashree units were helpful towards her due to her work as the president of the Alappuzha district panchayat.
