CHENNAI, MAY 15. The Democratic Progressive Alliance today demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, for disenfranchising select groups in a ``planned manner'' in order to ``win at any cost'' the Lok Sabha polls. Terming this an ``anti-democratic fraud'' on the people of the State, a resolution adopted at a meeting here said the removal of names was done with the connivance of revenue officials. The resolution said the AIADMK-BJP combine realised that it would not be able to secure the support of the minorities, government employees and teachers, and hence, deleted their names from the poll rolls with the help of revenue officials. In another resolution, the DPA demanded that the Election Commission conduct a full-scale enquiry into the mass deletions. Action should be taken against the officials responsible as well as the instigators. The meeting thanked the people for voting the alliance candidates, and also the workers of political parties for their support and hard work. Apart from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, M. Karunanidhi, the Congress Legislature party leader, S.R. Balasubramaniam; the Pattali Makkal Katchi founder, S. Ramadoss; the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary, Vaiko; the Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary, N. Varadarajan; the Communist Party of India State secretary, R. Nallakannu, and the Indian Union Muslim League State president, K.M. Khader Mohideen, participated. Emerging from the meeting, Dr. Ramadoss said the demand for Ms. Jayalalithaa's resignation also stemmed from the fact that the people had rejected her in this election. She had no moral responsibility to govern. Also, this government was ``against all Tamils'' and had to go, he said.
