CHENNAI, MAY 15. A lorry carrying a load of bleaching powder burst into flames on Mount-Poonamallee Road at Porur today. Though no one was injured, the accident caused panic in the area as firemen battled hard to put down the flames. The lorry was going to Hosur. At Jaya Nagar in Porur, the driver stopped the vehicle to make a telephone call at a public call office. The chemical substance caught fire due to intense pressure and heat as the lorry was parked in the scorching sun for a brief while. Even before fire tenders came to the spot, the lorry was completely gutted. Firemen came to the spot and cleared the slurry caused by the burning bleaching powder.
