`People voted for NDA in Muvattupuzha'

KOCHI, MAY 15 . The voters in Muvattupuzha had elected P.C. Thomas, fully aware of the fact that he was the NDA candidate, said P.J. Thomas, State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha.

He said in a statement issued here today that the people, who had abandoned both fronts in the State, had voted for Mr. Thomas.

The UDF lost 1.5 lakh votes and the LDF lost 24,581 votes in this Lok Sabha polls in comparison to the previous Lok Sabha elections in the constituency, he said.

He pointed out that the NDA was ahead of the UDF in five Assembly constituencies where the latter had sitting MLAs while in the Poonjar Assembly constituency held by the LDF, Mr. Thomas could score a lead of 9,455 votes. In the Pala Assembly constituency where K.M. Mani had polled 52,838 votes in the 2001 Assembly elections, his son and UDF candidate, Jose K. Mani, could get only 31,720 votes.

In the minority dominated areas of Pala, Poonjar and Kanjirappally constituencies put together, the NDA could get 37,000 more votes than the UDF and 39,000 more votes than LDF, he said
