HYDERABAD, MAY 15. The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Saturday sought to allay fears of communal riots breaking out especially in Hyderabad and criticised Telugu Desam for calling it "a legacy of the Congress". Participating in the "meet the press" programme here today, he said all steps would be taken to prevent such incidents. It was wrong on the TDP's part to claim there were no riots during its tenure. There were several of them with three persons being killed in a recent one. "It is shameful of them to make such claims and accuse the Congress, after extending support to a communal BJP- led Government at Centre and the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, who has been indicted by the Supreme Court for connivance in the riots there. They have no moral right to criticise a party whose leaders like Mahatma Gandhi have sacrificed their lives for maintaining communal harmony", he added. To another question, he said he would strive for getting Indian Institute of Technology to the State, now that a Congress-led coalition would be in place.
