Pawnbroker robbed of cash, ornaments

BANGALORE, MAY 15. A man who was released from jail two days ago, allegedly stabbed a pawnbroker and robbed him of Rs.10,000 in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs.1.50 lakh in Jnana Bharathi police station limits on Friday night.

The police said that around 8.30 p.m., Vimal Seth was walking towards his house at Mallathalli after alighting from a BMTC bus at Jnanajyothinagar. Siraj, who was released from jail two days ago, allegedly stabbed Seth on the back and neck with a knife and relieved him of Rs.10,000 and a bag containing gold ornaments worth Rs.1.50 lakh. Seth was treated at a private hospital.

The police said that before his arrest, Siraj had allegedly sold the gold ornaments, which he had stolen, to Seth at his shop in Kengeri. The Jnana Bharathi police have registered a case and are on the lookout for Siraj.

In another incident, thieves broke into a pawnbroker's shop in HMT Layout on Friday and made away with Rs. 8,000 in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs.1 lakh. The police said the incident occurred between 6.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. when Chandraprakash Lodha had locked his shop and gone home. The R.T. Nagar police have registered a case.

Chain snatched

Two motorcycle-borne men snatched a gold chain worth Rs.15,000 from G. Vasantha when she was about to enter her house on 8th Cross, Hanumanthanagar, on Saturday. The police said the incident occurred around 9 p.m. when Vasantha was returning home from a shop along with her baby. The Hanumanthanagar police have registered a case.

Man killed

Sunil Garwar (31) was killed on the spot when a lorry hit his moped near Aravindapura on the Ring Road in Jayanagar police station limits on Friday afternoon. The police said the lorry also hit another moped, a scooter, and two autorickshaws. The scooter rider, T. Venkatesh, was injured. The driver abandoned the lorry. The Jayanagar police have seized the lorry and are on the lookout for the driver.
