dated May 17, 1954: Felicitated

A meeting of the Film Fans Association was held in Madras on May 15 at the Guild of Services Information Bureau, Government Estate, Mount Road, to congratulate the producer, director and artistes of "Andha Naal", a Tamil picture, produced by Mr. A.V. Meiyappa Chettiar. Mr. M. Bhaktavatsalam, Minister, presided. Mr. V.C. Gopalaratnam, President of the Film Fans Association, said Mr. Meiyappa Chettiar had displayed his pioneering spirit and zeal in producing a novel type of Tamil picture, without either songs or dances, relying for its success purely on the story and the portrayal of characters. He congratulated the producer, the director, the scenario writer and the artistes who took part in "Andha Naal" on their fine work. Mr. Meiyappa Chettiar said he agreed to produce "Andha Naal" even though he knew it would not be a success at the box office. Mr. Javer N. Seetharaman, who wrote the script for the film, said the story had to be woven with great care to sustain the interest of the film-goer.
