Hassan
By Our Staff Correspondent
HASSAN, MAY 16. S.M. Anand, MLC, on Saturday appealed to the district administration to take steps to check post-election clashes among workers of different political parties in the district. Addressing a press conference here, he said clashes had been reported in various parts of the district, particularly at Holenarsipur, Hassan, and Gandsi Assembly constituencies. Calling upon the workers of the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) to abjure violence, he said it was imperative for them to sink their differences to create a congenial atmosphere for the development of Hassan district. Mr. Anand alleged that the Congress workers had been attacked at a few villages, including Vijayamaranahalli, Hosakoplu, Doddipura, Dasanaikanahalli, Basavaghatta, and Chennapura. A few Congress workers had been admitted to the district hospital with injuries after the clashes, he said. D.C. Sannaswamy, a member of the Hassan Zilla Panchayat, was receiving threatening calls for the past two days, he said and sought police protection for the former.
Potato sale
Mr. Anand urged the Deputy Commissioner, M. Maheshwara Rao, to direct the traders to sell potato tubers at a reasonable price. He authorities concerned should take steps to introduce electronic scales at the market yard in view of the allegations that faulty scales were being used to sell poor quality potato, he said.
